Our Story

Water damage is the leading cause of loss in the Builder’s Risk market. When water flows where it shouldn’t, the impact is felt throughout the entire project. Timelines are pushed back, expenses pile up, and occupancy may be delayed. Entire project plans must be revised. The contractor’s cost of risk assessment increases, and insurers face big claims. Everyone loses – all because of something that could be prevented, but wasn’t.

While Internet of Things (IoT) technology exists in the market to help mitigate the risk to construction sites, widespread adoption has been slow because of the age-old question: who pays to implement the technology?

In an industry facing ever-tighter margins, additional expenses on a project bid or insurance quote could result in losing the opportunity. Plus, the process of installing and managing new equipment means lost productivity, increased payroll, additional subcontractors to manage, and longer project timelines. The risk of a water damage claim seems easier than the proposed solution—after all, how to handle the impact of a claim is a known factor.

Meanwhile, insurer’s losses continue to mount from preventable claims, insurance rates climb, and frustration grows for insureds, carriers, and brokers.

Our founders recognized this problem and knew that by solving the cost-to-implement and manage question for all stakeholders, carriers, brokers, and insureds would readily agree to the installation of water mitigation technology to minimize construction property losses and maximize financial performance.

With unique backgrounds in insurance claims, underwriting, insurance advisory, risk management consulting, and technology deployment services, Insight Risk Technologies was founded as the first-ever solution to combine comprehensive Builder’s Risk insurance coverage with industry-tested IoT technologies to reduce or eliminate water damage losses.
